Meaning of Plan Profarma
Profarma Program 2009-2012 is aimed at promoting competitiveness in Pharmaceutical Industry and was the initiative of the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, the Spanish Ministry of Health and Social Politics and the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. Companies are classified into different categories according to their excellence in different fields: industrial, economic, and research and development.
Its aim is to favor the modernization of this industry and the promotion of those activities that bring added value resulting in investments in new industrial plants and new technologies. In the case of Spanish subsidiary Companies of Multinational Companies, having the opportunity of improving the qualification achieved is an important element to gain new investments from the Parent Company.

The group of laboratories that are part of the Plan Profarma set aside for a total amount of 54,690,000 euros, being this amount the 18.19 per cent of their total investment. The number of employees of these companies is 32,297 people, from whom 4,210 (13.04%) are dedicated to R&D.
